Swamy says 'we are secular' to those opposing triple talaq Bill

Subramaninan Swamy, MP, senior BJP leader, came down heavily on those who oppose the triple talaq Bill which has been introduced in the Rajya Sabha. Addressing a mammoth rally jointly organised by the Virat Hindustan Sangam and Viswa Hindu Parishad at Tenkasi in southern Tamil Nadu on Sunday,  Swamy reminded the Islamic fundamentalists and those who are raising a hue and cry over the triple talaq Bill that the country was partitioned in 1947 to facilitate the concerns expressed by the Muslims.

“While Pakistan was creased as a Muslim-administered  theocratic State, the founding fathers of our Constitution decided that India should be a secular country and that is what we are today. Those who speak about special privileges and rights because of the religion to which they belong should never forget that their forefathers were Hindus and all of us are Indians,” said Swamy.

The senior BJP leader lambasted the AIADMK and DMK Governments alternately ruling Tamil Nadu since 1967 for swindling the Hindu temples in the State. He pointed out that thousands of hectares of temple lands have been sold to private parties by the Governments of the day and  the politicians  have converted the temples into milch cows. “The Supreme Court had pronounced  verdict in a case filed by me  that the government has  no rights or business to interfere in the administration of temples and it should be left to the devotees.

This was the verdict in the Chidambaram Temple case I had filed in the apex court. The Government should immediately hand over all the temples to the devotees,” said Dr Swamy who expressed apprehensions over the blaze which brought down a portion of the Madurai Meenakshi Temple on Friday night.

He also expressed concerns over the increasing number of RSS and VHP leaders and activists being murdered in Tamil Nadu by Islamic extremists. “Though the activists of RSS and VHP are being murdered in a gruesome manner by the Islamic extremists, the State administration has not done anything to arrest the culprits. The murders are happening on a regular basis in Tamil Nadu while the State administration is acting as if they do not have any clues,” said Swamy.
