With State elections drawing closer Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has fired fresh salvo at the Centre holding New Delhi guilty of non-cooperation on one hand and imposing taxes in the name of clean India campaign.
“The Centre is not keeping its promises. Their leaders make loads of promises when they come here but when it comes to fulfilling them they backtrack” she said complaining that the BRGF funds had been stopped and so have been other funds meant for rural development.
“Here you talk of development and Swachchh Bharat and levy cess on people but when it comes to releasing funds for the flood-affected areas you turn deaf. Is this because you have a political agenda in BengalIJ” she asked apparently training her gun at Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
“Here you do not give us what rightfully belongs to us and there you extract money by imposing cess in the name of Swacchh Bharat. This is another form of extortion,” she said.
Fresh attack from the Chief Minister comes days after she returned from his Bihar sojourn where she attended the swearing-in of her counterpart Nitish Kumar and days after inviting the grand-alliance leaders like lalu Yadav, Kumar, and Arvind Kejriwal to the world business summit to be held in January in Kolkata.
Banerjee is currently working on providing more potency to the anti-BJP grand alliance by bringing newer parties to its fold.
