Opposition Telugu Desam Party has given a call for a Statewide strike on Tuesday in protest against the apathy of Telangana Rashtra Samiti Government on the problems of farmers.
The party gave the call for the strike on the day when the entire Opposition barring MIM was suspended from the State Assembly for the remaining period of the Monsoon Session.
Speaker Madhusudhana Chary announced the suspension of 32 members of Congress, TDP and the BJP when they stalled the proceedings of the House demanding further discussions on the debt waiver scheme for farmers in the context of continuing suicides by the farmers.
In legislative Council Chairman Swamy Goud put six Opposition members suspended when they waved placard in the House on the issue of farmers. The suspended members included five from the Congress and one from BJP. The trouble broke out as soon as the House met after the three-day long recess as the Opposition members rushed to the podium of the Speaker demanding the resumption of the debate which the Government said had concluded on Wednesday evening with the reply of the Agriculture Minister.
When all the pleas of the Speaker Chary to restore the order in the House fell on deaf ears, Minister for Irrigation T Harish Rao moved a resolution to suspend the 32 members of various Opposition parties. After the Speaker announced their suspension, the suspended members refused to leave the House voluntarily and the Marshals were called in to lift them out of the House. Apart from Congress, TDP and BJP the suspended members also include two members of CPI one of YSRCP and one independent member.
"The 32 members are suspended for the remaining period of the Monsoon Session," the Speaker said. He said that there was no scope for further discussion on the problems of the farmers as the House had already discussed the issue for 13 hours and the government had already made a statement on the measures it had taken to deal with the problem.
But the opposition parties continued to insist that the Government should come out with a clear announcement on the loan waiver. Angrily reacting to the suspension the leader of Opposition K Jana Reddy termed it undemocratic act aimed at throttling the voice of the opposition parties.
TDP floor leader E Dayakar Rao wondered what the assembly would discuss in the absence of the opposition. BJP floor leader K lakshman said that it was the darkest day in the history of Telangana assembly.
later Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao speaking in the House said that the government has already made a statement on how it intends to deal with the farmers’ suicide. "As per the decision taken by the Business Advisory Committee the House discussed the issue for two days", he pointed out. He found fault with the opposition for deliberately stalling the House.
Telangana Telugu Desam president l Ramanna talking to the media said that on the day of the strike effigies of the government will be burnt in each of the 119 assembly constituencies to protest against its failure in helping the farmers.
TDP leader Dayakar Rao said that all the opposition parties keeping their flags aside will wage a united fight against the government on the issues of the farmers.
