A Bhubaneswar-bound Air India flight carrying 155 passengers returned to the city airport on Monday afternoon, after the pilot detected smoke in the cockpit.

The Air India flight AI 669, which had taken off from the Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport (CSIA) here at 2.15 pm, returned and made a safe landing at the city airport at 2.50 pm, amid full emergency declared by the authorities. The AI pilot had sought emergency landing after he detected smoke in the cockpit of his aircraft.

“The aircraft made a safe landing. All the passengers are safe,” an AI spokesperson said.

Soon after the Bhubaneswar-bound Air India flight returned to the city airport, the aircraft was grounded to facilitate its inspection by the airline’s engineering department.
