With the BJP-led NDA Government in place, External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj will visit Vietnam from August 24-26 in order to touch base with the friendly country. Her visit will pave way for more high-level visits between the two nations that share a fairly decent trade relationship of about $5.4 billion. In fact, last week Vietnam extended lease to Indian oil company OVl for the two oil blocks in the South China Sea. President Pranab Mukherjee is expected to visit Vietnam in mid-September in his first overseas visit under the new Government. Both countries also share excellent political relations: Vietnam is supportive of India’s claim to a permanent seat in the United Nations Security Council. Swaraj would meet her counterpart Pham Binh Minh. She will also inaugurate the Third Roundtable of ASEAN think-tank along of which India’s RIS is also a part. On 26th, Swaraj will meet the heads of 19 Indian missions from the South East and East Asian region.
