To ramp up its ties with Maldives, External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj will visit Male on Friday to chair the Joint Commission meeting. The visit comes months after a tour by Prime Minister Narendra Modi was cancelled due to political disturbances in Maldives following the arrest and sentencing of its former President Mohammad Nasheed.
Besides giving a fresh impetus to their relationship that has faced lot of ups and down in recent times, India and Maldives will also refresh their arrangements on Defence and security. During her two-day stay in Male, Swaraj will meet the Defence, Economic Development and Health Ministers of Maldives. External Affairs spokesperson Vikas Swarup said there will be announcement on Defence and security areas.
