Supreme Court refuses to interfere in interim bail issue

The Supreme Court on Thursday refused to interfere with actor Salman Khan’s interim bail as it turned away a Maharashtra-based lawyer who questioned how the Bombay High Court could grant bail in a heinous case on the same day when the Bollywood superstar was convicted by a lower court. The bench headed by Chief Justice Hl Dattu found no “urgency” to decide the issue after it heard the petition filed by advocate Akhilesh Mayashankar Chaubey.

The petition argued that special treatment to Khan violated right to equality as law must treat all persons equally. The HC granted two-day bail to Khan who suffered five-year imprisonment in a 2002 hit-and-run case to allow him time to receive copy of the trial judge order. The HC will consider extension of bail on Friday.     Pl
