Former Chief Minister Jitan Ram Manjhi, who will be holding a rally of Hindustani Awam Morcha (HAM) on Monday, dropped a bomb on Wednesday when he made a sensational claim that forces opposed to him have given ‘supari’ for his murder. In an interview to a local channel, he claimed that recce has been done on him and the sources of the supari killer were finding out where his close relatives live.
Manjhi, despite repeated queries, did not reveal who were the forces out to get him assassinated but said the people with feudal mentality always humiliated and murdered the leaders of oppressed classes and Dalit sections and demanded probe into the ‘mysterious’ death of BR Ambedkar soon after he was relieved of his ministerial responsibilities.
“This is a subject of probe who is after my life,” he said but refused to approach Chief Minister Nitish Kumar for the enquiry. “I can’t believe that he is not aware of whatever is happening. He should have taken notice and ordered a probe. Mahatma Gandhi had threat to his life but he never went to tell anybody,” he added.
Asked if he was making this revelation for the sake of publicity, Manjhi shot back, “I never did anything for publicity. I am only expressing my apprehensions and I strongly believe that I am under threat,” he said and recalled that when he was Chief Minister one JD(U) MlA (Anant Singh) had publicly threatened to beat him up.
Manjhi also claimed that adequate security was not provided to him which he was entitled to as former CM. He said he wrote and also phoned the DGP telling him that the Government would be responsible if any untoward incident occurred with him. He also alleged that in his carcade, while traveling to other places in the State, escort and required force were found missing.
