A defence lawyer on Thursday urged an Ahmednagar-based fast-track court to summon high-profile Special Public Prosecutor Ujwal Nikam as one of the six defence witnesses in the much-discussed Kopardi Dalit gangrape and murder case.
In an application made before Sessions Judge (Mrs) Suvarna Keole, defence lawyer Vijayalaxmi Khopade said that it was essential for the court to record the evidence of six important persons, including Nikam, to establish the lacunae in the investigations in the case and to prove the innocence of her client.
Vijayalaxmi, who is fighting the case along with her advocate father Balasaheb Khopade, is representing Santosh Bhaval, one of the three accused in the case.
