Dr. Kafeel, who was released from jail in Aligarh for his address against the Citizenship Amendment Act in December 2019, said that he has suffered not only mental but also physical harassment in the jail. Dr. Kafeel was acted upon by the Aligarh administration under the National Security Act which the High Court declared illegal and ordered his immediate release.
Dr. Kafeel told media that the barrack had a capacity of 40 prisoners but 150 prisoners were kept. At the time of the pandemic, where the Prime Minister of the country talks about social distancing, these rules are being broken inside the jail. In such a situation, the health of the detainees in jail is in serious danger.
He said, 'Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath himself came to the Medical College just before the case of the death of 70 children in Gorakhpur Medical College and inspected my hard-working ICU ward. He also patted my back.
After the incident, the situation that followed, I was presented to the Chief Minister with political disclosure. Some said that I am a man of SP, someone said that I am a man of BSP. In my case the Chief Minister was misled.
He said, “the action against me was not taken under the National Security Act because I addressed the CAA in Aligarh but because I was about to be released and somehow they had to put me in jail.
Dr. Kafeel further said that “ in times of pandemic in the country, I could not provide my services under the circumstances. But now I am ready to serve the public.
Dr. Kafeel has thanked all the officials and all the students including Dr. Hamza Malik, President of the Residential Doctor's Academy of JN Medical College, Aligarh Muslim University, for supporting him.
