Bengal Opposition feels there is threat to the life of Sudipta Sen the ponzi fund kingpin who as the chief of the Saradha group had allegedly masterminded the multi-crore chit-fund scam.
Marxist leader and State Opposition leader Suryakanto Mishra on Wednesday said, “We have sufficient reasons to believe that Sudipta Sen’s life is under threat as we can see that soon after he said that he would reveal everything he fell ill and had to be taken to the hospital.”
Mishra also a CPI(M) politburo member said Sudipta’s revelations could “expose the names of many big fishes who are now in power and hence there are chances that he could be silenced.”
His comments came almost concurrent to an affidavit being filed by Sen’s lawyer in the High Court. The affidavit said that the probe was going in right direction and that Sen would cooperate with designated Shyamal Sen Commission, Special Investigation Team and the State Police and hence there was no need for a CBI probe into the case.
Curiously it was Sen who had personally written to the CBI giving the names of 22 people including some MPs and Ministers demanding a probe to be conducted by the central agency.
Meanwhile in a major development the matter regarding the demand of CBI inquiry into the Saradha case in Calcutta High Court was on Wednesday transferred to a separate division bench raising the chances of delay in the disposition of the PIl.
The case was being heard by division bench of Chief Justice Arun Mishra and Justice Joymalya Bagchi. However the Chief Justice on Wednesday transferred the case to the bench of Justices Ashim Banerjee and Dr Mrinal Kanti Chowdhury.
“The cases will have to be heard afresh” advocate in the case Subroto Mukherjee said adding the results could be delayed as the Court would be closed for summer vacation from Friday. “Any delay in such sensitive matter involving lakhs of people and thousands of crore of Rupees — particularly where many people are committing suicide — could prove vital,” he said.
