The condition of the iconic Bengali actress Suchitra Sen currently undergoing treatment at a south Kolkata medical facility deteriorated late on Friday afternoon even as she was put in non-invasive ventilation a medical bulletin released by the hospital authorities said.

Sen who ruled the Bengal film world for more than three decades primarily pairing with the megastar Uttam Kumar and took occasional shots in Hindi films giving memorable classics like Andhi, Bambai Ka Babu, Mamta and Devdas was hospitalised ten-day ago with lung infections and breathing problems.

The condition of the 82-plus actress continued to oscillate between what the doctors said "critical" and "improving" before deteriorating substantially on Friday.

A team of senior specialists treating the veteran actress who had withdrawn from the public eyes for past few decades said though her heart rate and blood pressure was normal she had breathing problems and was put on "non-invasive ventilator."
