Delhi Transport Minister Saurabh Bharadwaj on Wednesday called a review meeting on the controversial Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) corridor. During the meeting it was decided that ‘structural improvement’ is needed on the corridor and efforts will be channelised to do the same.
According to the sources the corridor needs improvement on different aspects including safety markers, installation of railings segregating the bus lanes and the private vehicle lanes and improvisation of the bus queue shelters.
Being an MlA from the Greater Kailash constituency, the Minister has been quite proactive about the traffic problems caused by the corridor troubling the residents of south Delhi localities such as Chirag Dilli, Ambedkar Nagar, Greater Kailash, Khanpur and others. He had told The Pioneer that the Government will seek a legal opinion on the corridor that has drawn flak from the residents.
The 5.8 km corridor from Ambedkar Nagar to Moolchand has drawn criticism from the local residents for causing perpetual traffic jams and dangerous for the pedestrians crossing the corridor. With the buses and private vehicles not following their respective lanes in the absence of proper enforcement on the corridor, the corridor has become dangerous as the private vehicles continue to dangerously enter the bus lanes.
