Strengthen grassroots ahead of 2027 UP polls: Bhagwat

In a significant organisational move aimed at bolstering the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh’s (RSS) base ahead of the 2027 Uttar Pradesh assembly elections, RSS Sarsanghchalak Mohan Bhagwat has directed all units across the state to re-establish contact with inactive swayamsevaks and bring them back into the fold.

This is part of a larger effort to strengthen the Sangh’s presence at the grassroots level and ensure greater public engagement in the coming years.

During a high-level meeting held in Lucknow with senior pracharaks and office-bearers of the organisation, Bhagwat instructed district-level leadership to identify and reach out to swayamsevaks who were once active but have become distant due to personal or professional reasons.

“Understand the problems of those who have drifted away, and make efforts to re-engage them,” he reportedly told the gathering, emphasising that no volunteer should be left behind.

The Sangh plans to prepare detailed lists of such individuals and assign volunteers to re-establish personal contact with them. The aim is to not only strengthen internal organisation but also to create a network of committed individuals who can contribute to nation-building efforts through cultural and social initiatives. Bhagwat also underscored the importance of expanding the number of daily shakhas (branches) in villages, especially in areas where the Sangh has a minimal or no presence.  He suggested that rural outreach would be key to shaping public opinion in the lead-up to the 2027 elections and beyond. In a related development, RSS joint general secretary Krishna Gopal chaired a crucial coordination meeting of the organisation’s economic cell at Saraswati Shishu Mandir in Nirala Nagar, Lucknow. The meeting was attended by representatives of several Sangh-affiliated bodies and policy advisors.

During the discussions, feedback gathered from the public was shared, highlighting key issues like unemployment, inflation, and economic instability. One of the primary suggestions that emerged from this meeting was that the government must focus more seriously on employment generation.  This recommendation, based on feedback from swayamsevaks working at the grassroots, was formally conveyed to the government through appropriate channels.

According to sources, the Sangh-affiliated economic groups raised concerns about the rising discontent among youth due to limited job opportunities, especially in small towns and rural areas. They called for a stronger government response to these concerns in the form of employment schemes, skill development initiatives, and support for small-scale industries.

The meeting also focused on creating a collaborative framework where government action and community participation go hand in hand. Participants stressed that economic policies must be aligned with the real needs of the people, and that Sangh’s outreach mechanisms can play a key role in bridging this gap. The dual strategy—of strengthening the organisation internally and providing policy suggestions based on public feedback—appears to be part of the RSS’s broader roadmap for Mission-2027.  It also indirectly supports the BJP’s efforts to retain power in Uttar Pradesh by addressing both ideological and economic concerns of the electorate.
