Strange bedfellows: Cong, JD(U)

In the fast changing political scenario in Bihar, new combinations and chemistry sometime baffle the people as the Congress party is now all set to make an alliance with the RJD and the lJP. While, the State Congress president attacks the Nitish Kumar Government for not utilising funds under the Central scheme, he avoids making any comment on the possibility of party’s likely poll alliance with the RJD.

“Strange are the ways the Congress party functions in the State today. On the one hand it supports the Nitish Government on the floor of the House while on the other hand, it’s in final stage to formalise an alliance with the RJD,” wondered State BJP leader Giriraj Singh.

Similarly, Bihar BJP president Mangal Pandey recently said that the people of the State are amazed and wanted to know what kind of political move the Congress has been playingIJ “Its legislators are supporting the Nitish Government so it doesn’t fall on the floor of the House whereas the party is all set to form an alliance with lalu-led RJD for the upcoming lok Sabha polls,” he said while adding “but people of the State are all watching this political gameplan from close quarters and they would give them a befitting reply”.

Meanwhile, State Congress president Ashok Chaudhury too has attacked the Nitish Government for repeatedly hankering about special demand for the State. “First, he should spend all the money received under the Central schemes and they ask for more under the special status demand,” he said. However, Chaudhury has been avoiding to make any comment on his party which is all set to finalize its poll alliance with the RJD. “We’re making our preparation for all the 40 seats,” he said. But, interestingly he along with senior State Congress president Sadanand Singh had gone to Delhi recently and met senior party leaders for seat-sharing arrangement with the RJD.

RJD chief lalu Prasad too had reached Delhi on Friday last to seal the deal but just before the meeting the Congress leaders he fell sick and was hospitalised. Sources in the RJD told The Pioneer that the deal has already been finalised and the Congress this time would contest on 10 seats in the State whereas four seats have been spared for the lJP, two for left parties and one for the NCP as well.

“If this equation is taking shape then why the Congress MlAs are supporting the Nitish Government in the State legislatureIJ” asked a BJP leader. Meanwhile, the political pundits of the State are of the opinion that being a national party Congress was playing double role in the State. “If the lok Sabha poll result goes against Nitish Kumar, the Congress will withdraw support to the Government but if it boomerangs and the JD(U) fares better, they would continue supporting the Government,” said one of them.

Taking the fact that changing political scenario in the State is setting to grip the political mood, the BJP now has said that party’s prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi would once again be visiting State sometime next month and in all likelihood would address three public meetings. “For this, the party has even prepared a tentative list of five places — Purnia, Muzaffarpur, Bhagalpur, Gaya and Motihari — where he could address the rallies but it all depends on the weather condition,” said State BJP president Mangal Pandey. In all the four constituencies, the BJP has its sitting MPs whereas at Muzaffarpur Capt Jay Narain Nishad has already moved closer to the BJP after his meeting with Narendra Modi.

In addition to the NaMo rallies in January, the State BJP has also geared up to take Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar head on in his home turf Nalanda.
