In a daring Maoist attack in the wee hours on Friday, one Special Task Force (STF) jawan was killed and two others were injured in Jamui district of Bihar. This was the sixth Maoist attack in the district in a span of six months.

According to police, about 105-150 Maoists gathered at the top of Giddheshwar hills under Khaira police station in Jamui district fired upon a patrolling party of police personnel killing one and injuring two others. The deceased STF jawan was later identified as Anshuman Kumar and the two injured as Ajay Kumar and Suman Kumar. Both the injured personnel were later shifted to Patna Medical College and Hospital for better treatment.

The Maoist first blew up an under-construction building of CRPF in Parasi village of the district on Thursday night. “Getting the information, the teams of STF, BMP and district police were rushed to the incident site in the wee hours where they were fired upon by the Maoists from atop the Giddheshwar hills,” said Jamui Superintendent of Police Jitendra Rana. A massive combing operation has been launched in the area to nab the Maoists, said the police official.

Jamui has been one of the worst Naxal-affected districts of Bihar where at least six such Maoist attacks were registered in the last six months from April. A few months ago, the Maoists had attacked a passenger train in the district in which one policeman was killed and the train was taken to ransom by them for well over two hours. later, they had also attacked a camp office of a road construction company for levy and took some labourers as hostage.
