A group of St Stephen’s College teachers and college administration continue to be at loggerheads with each other over the new constitution. The administration has now issued a notice to all the teachers threatening to initiate action against them for proposing to hold an election for selection of Governing Body members.
Few days back the staff association of the college requested the administration for conducting an election of the Governing Body (GB) members, since the proposed constitution was passed with a truncated GB.
The teachers had asked the administration to hold another meeting of the GB with all the members and hence asked for an election. A senior college faculty Vijay Tankha had also issued an “election notice” in this regard on December 7 but the college administration on Thursday called it “illegal”. “All teaching staff are hereby notified that the purported ‘Election Notice’ dated December 07, 2015 issued by Dr Vijay Tankha claiming to be the returning officer in terms of his letter, to the Society St. Stephen’s College, Delhi is illegal, completely without jurisdiction and in clear violation and contravention of the mandatory provisions of the Constitution of the Society,” stated the notice.
Issued by Chairman, Supreme Council and Governing Body, Warris K Masih, the notice threatened to initiate action against anyone who follows the election notification.
