State SP demands ban on Sanatan Sanstha

Published on:

Amid the continuing crackdown on various right-wing organisations by the CBI and State ATS, Samajwadi Party’s Maharashtra unit on Tuesday demanded a ban on the Sanatan Sanstha, even as the Congress rooted for the immediate arrest of Sanstha’s Sanstha founder-chief Jayant B. Athavale.

In a statement issued here, State SP president Abu Azmi urged the Centre and the Maharashtra government to ensure adequate security at and  around various mosques  in the state ahead of the Eid Al Adha festival.

Azmi said that the increased security at and around mosques was essential in the wake of the State ATS’ finding that there was a major plan to foment communal disturbances and engineer terror strikes in five cities of Maharashtra and seizure of large quantities of arms and explosives from Nala Sopara.

Azmi also urged the Maharashtra government to provide strong security to State ATS chief Atulchandra Kulkarni in the wake of recent arrests of right wing activists allegedly behind a conspiracy to engineer blasts in five different cities of the state and seizure of a huge cache of arms, ammunition and explosives.
