Stalin soon to undertake Namukku Naame Yatra

Published on:

The DMK, the principal Opposition party in Tamil Nadu, has got into an election mode past the Diwali celebrations. Party sources said on Friday that MK Stalin, working president of the DMK who is also the leader of the Opposition, would soon undertake a Namukku Naame (we for ourselves) Yatra crisscrossing the State for interacting with the people and to rejuvenate the party cadre.

Though it is being claimed by the party insiders that this time the Namukku Naame Yatra is being held as a prelude to the local body elections which is expected  in the month of December, it may be remembered that Stalin had said many times in the recent past that Tamil Nadu would soon have a general election thanks to the infighting in the ruling AIADMK.

“We are yet to work out the dates of the yatra. But it will be there as we want to take to the people the all –round failure of the Palaniswamy Government,” Stalin told reporters.

He said he was in discussion with the district office bearers of the party about the schedule of the yaatra and the details would be announced soon.

The Edappadi Palaniswamy-led AIADMK Government is in a precarious condition as the Madras High Court is hearing a series of petitions filed by the rebel AIADMK MlAs and 21 DMK MlAs questioning the propriety of the Speaker and the Privileges Committee to disqualify them from the House citing various disciplinary laws.

Even Vijayakant, sulking after the wiping out of his party the DMDK and the alliance led by him in the 2016 assembly election, has also declared that Tamil Nadu would soon have a general election. He said  his party would not contest in the upcoming by-election to R K Nagar caused by the demise of former Chief Minister J Jyalalithaa.

The Election Commission has said that it would declare the schedule of the RK Nagar by-poll soon as the election has to ne held before December 31.

The DMK cadre has been enthused by the public appearance of M Karunanidhi on Thursday.

The DMK president who has been ailing since October 2016 has not made any public appearance for the last one year.

On Thursday he made an unscheduled visit to the office of the party mouth piece Murasoli which surprised his followers and fans.

The AIADMK finds itself in a precarious condition with each day bringing news about more dissensions and dissidence.

Munusami, the strongman in the O Panneerselvam camp declared that he and other faction leaders do not subscribe to the attitude of Thampidurai, the deputy speaker of the lok Sabha, who has been working overtime for bringing Sasikala and TTV Dinakaran back to the leadership.
