Stalin reiterates his decision to send Governor packing

The detailed note, explaining the responsibilities and powers of the Governor under the Indian Constitution, released by Tamil Nadu Raj Bhavan on Tuesday has not dampened the fighting spirit of MK Stalin, leader of Opposition who is also the working president of the DMK.

Wednesday saw the Thalapathy (Tamil for commander) leading the entire Opposition MlAs out of the legislative Assembly to protest against the Speaker’s refusal to his pleas to speak about the “unjustifiable role” being played by Governor Banwarilal Purohit in the governance of Tamil Nadu.

“There are two Centres of power in the State. The Governor is running a parallel Government from the Raj Bhavan while the Edappadi Palaniswami-led Government is watching the proceedings silently. The Governor is in touch with Chief Secretary Girija Vaidyanathan on a daily basis over telephone. I have the full details with me,” Stalin said while speaking to reporters outside the Secretariat. He reiterated his decision to continue the fight against the Governor’s “interference” in the administration of the State notwithstanding the explanatory note issued by Constitutional expert SH Aney which was released to the media on Tuesday by the Raj Bhavan.

H Raja, the national secretary of the BJP and D Jayakumar, Tamil Nadu Minister for Fisheries who is also the spokesman of the State Government, told reporters that Stalin has become jittery because of the fact that he does not have any issues to fight against the Government.

“The officials who had attended the meetings convened by the Governor told me that they were happy and enthusiastic because of such meetings. The Governor has never instructed them to do anything,” said Raja.

He asked them the kind of welfare measures they are implementing and enquires whether they need any help from him. All the meetings are attended by ministers deputed by the chief minister,” said Raja.

Jayakumar, Tamil Nadu Minister, said Stalin’s trip to Sri Rangam Temple at Tiruchirappalli will not going to help him an away.” One has to be honest and sincere to get God’s blessings. What Stalin is doing is nothing but drama,” said Jayakumar.
