The “Start-Up India, Stand-Up India” initiative of Prime Minister Narendra Modi has found a taker in DMK. The Dravidian major’s chief minister-in-waiting MK Stalin, the second son of party chief M Karunanidhi by second wife Dayalu, declared on Saturday that if voted to power in the upcoming Assembly election, his Government would encourage start-up accelerators and incubators in Chennai and make the city the country’s start-up. Skill development and vocational training were the words he used many times in the speech.
Addressing IT professionals in Chennai on Saturday as part of his Namukku Naame (We for ourselves) outreach programme in the run-up to the Assembly election in Tamil Nadu, the 63–year-old Stalin said he would formulate a start-up policy for the IT sector. “The DMK will introduce single-window clearance for entrepreneurship to set up units in the State,” said Stalin.
His speech was a Tamil adaptation of what Prime Minister Modi had told the delegates of the Start-Up initiative held at New Delhi recently. The DMK leader said his top priorities would be on increasing employability through vocational training and skill development.
Stalin is the second Chief Ministerial candidate in Tamil Nadu who has borrowed heavily from Prime Minister Modi’s speeches. Earlier, Anbumani Ramadoss, the PMK’s Chief Ministerial candidate had made use of Modi’s minimum Government and maximum governance formula in his speeches and action plans for the betterment of the common man’s life in Tamil Nadu.
