A Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) jawan was killed and nine others injured in a militant attack on Srinagar outskirts on Friday evening.
Sources said that militants believed to be two in number attacked an SSB convoy at Zakoora when they were withdrawing from the area after a law and order duty. “Ten SSB jawans were injured in the firing out of whom one succumbed to his injuries,” police sources said. The condition of the three is stated to be critical.
The SSB retaliated and the exchange of fire continued for some time. Police and CRPF has cordoned the area and massive searches have been launched in the area.
It was not immediately known whether militants were planning to carry out a fidayeen attack on a nearby CRPF camp or it was an attack on SSB patrol.
The attack comes two days after two fidayeen militants were killed in a 56 hour long gunfight in Pampore on Srinagar Jammu highway.
