The Enforcement Directorate probing the Saradha chit fund case and its possible terror links, has located some suspicious accounts that could have links with the October 2 Khagragarh blast in Burdwan district.
In a related development, arrested Trinamool Congress MP Srinjoy Bose had begun to spill the beans by divulging some names that played an important role in the Saradha chit fund scam. According to CBI sources, Bose now hospitalised under custody had divulged the names of two politically “very influential persons” who played a crucial role in the scam.
Though the agency is yet to ascertain the names of the account holders, ED sources said that they bumped into the account while investigating the money trail in the Burdwan blast case.
Coming against the backdrop of the Opposition hullabaloo over claims made by the BJP leadership that Saradha chit fund scam had links with Burdwan blasts, the ED’s findings assumed significance, experts said adding the veracity alleged role of a Trinamool Rajya Sabha MP who enjoyed good chemistry both with the Saradha boss Sudipto Sen and the leaders of Jamat-ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh, the group behind Burdwan blast, would be ascertained in this respect soon.
Bose, who had been diagnosed with weakened heart muscles and other ailments, might be made to give secret statements before a Magistrate under Section 164 of the CrPc, sources said adding the CBI was making preparations to get his statements recorded and would petition the court accordingly.
Bose’s stated revelations came within hours of a prediction made by another jailed former Trinamool leader Asif Khan — who had since fallen out with his earlier political bosses — that the central agencies would arrest Bengal Minister Madan Mitra as early as December and the “remaining two bosses” of the party including Chief Minister could be arrested sometime before the Assembly elections.
He told the media while being taken to the court saying, “Madan Mitra will be arrested in December and other two leaders including Mamata Banerjee will be taken in custody before the elections.”
Meanwhile, the ED on Thursday sealed more properties belonging to the Saradha group. After the one sealed at Bagbazar, the agency took control of a property at Chandernagore, sources said.
