At least two persons were injured when fire broke out in a part of the Satish Dhawan Space Center at Sriharikota, an island off Nellore district of Andhra Pradesh on Thursday afternoon.
According to the officials, fire broke out at around 2 pm in building No 169 of the fuel department when the highly inflammable fuel was being mixed as part of the preparations for the testing of GSlV rocket.
The accident occurred due to the sparks during the process of the mixing of the fuel. On noticing the sparks a technician Chinna Kondaiah jumped from an elevated platform. He and another contract employee Rajesh were injured in the accident and were first rushed to hospital Sulurpeta and then to Chennai.
The fire engines from the Space Center and the Central Industrial Security Force rushed to the scene of the accident to bring the fire under control.
