Tainted cricketer S Sreesanth’s life story is all set to become a Malayalam movie. The film, titled ‘Cricket’ tentatively, is based on the screenplay by scriptwriter AK Sajan and is being directed by master thriller-maker Shaji Kailas.
Makers of the film are confident that the Keralite audience, who have turned many a Kailas thriller into huge successes, will receive the movie based on Sreesanth’s life warmly too. Sources said preliminary discussions had already been completed.
The Kailas movie would not be entirely based on Sreesanth’s life but the plot would revolve around the life of a cricketer whose career and life get shattered due to betting and spot-fixing. It would depict the highs and lows in the life of a young cricketer who makes it to the national team through hard work.
The central character in the movie will be played by a Malayalee actor to make the feel “original”. Scriptwriter Sajan told a newspaper that the young cricketers in Kerala had been seeing Sreesanth as their role model.
But that feeling had shattered after he was trapped in the complicated case following his arrest over IPl spot-fixing.
The focus of the movie would be how the youth were becoming greedy and lavish, the newspaper quoted Sajan as saying. It would discuss how the youth were searching for
out-of-the-way methods to achieve their objectives. The film would try to give a strong message on such matters, Sajan said.
