In a bid to foster adventure, physical fitness, and leadership among the youth, the Spear Corps of the Indian Army conducted a Basic White Water Rafting Course for National Cadet Corps (NCC) cadets at Aalo in West Siang district from 19 to 23 October.

A total of 20 cadets drawn from 51 BN NCC, 10 Assam BN NCC, and 63 Assam BN NCC under Group Headquarters Dibrugarh participated in the five-day training programme. The contingent was accompanied by a Junior Commissioned Officer (JCO), a Non-Commissioned Officer (NCO), and a Girls Cadet Instructor.

The comprehensive course covered theoretical and practical aspects of white-water rafting, alongside swimming tests, river-crossing drills, and essential river communication signals. The rigorous exercises aimed to build resilience, discipline, and teamwork among the young participants.

Complementing the adventure training, the Army organised an interactive lecture on career opportunities in the Armed Forces to motivate cadets towards national service. The cadets were also briefed on the historical significance of the 1962 Sino-Indian War. Further, a weapons display and a screening of the movie Uri: The Surgical Strike were conducted to instil patriotic values and familiarise them with military operational capabilities.

The initiative highlights the Indian Army’s ongoing commitment to youth empowerment and character building under the spirit of Military-Civil Fusion.
