SP to hold rallies in 75 district headquarters of UP on August 9

In an attempt to resurrect itself after the crushing defeat in Assembly elections in March, the Samajwadi Party will revive the old war cry ‘halla bol’ and organise rallies at 75 district headquarters on August 9. The rally will formally kick off the Samajwadi Party’s campaign against the BJP Government in UP and at the Centre.

SP president Akhilesh Yadav will lead the campaign and address a rally in Faizabad. The party has chosen August 9 — the day symbolic with ‘August Kranti’, when Mahatma Gandhi announced ‘Quit India’ movement against the colonial powers at the Bombay session of All India Congress Committee on August 8, 1942.

The rally coined ‘Desh bachao Desh banao rally’ will target the BJP-led NDA government at the Centre and Uttar Pradesh. SP sources said that the party was left with no option but to pick the gauntlet for its survival as the BJP after winning 325 seats along with its allies in the Assembly was posing a huge threat to the Samajwadi Party.
