With the aim to improve rural economy, UP Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav has endorsed his Government’s full support to improve export of foodgrains and vegetables and said farmers and organisations doing extraordinary work in this field would be felicitated.
“The Governement is committed to the welfare of farmers. The need of the hour is to improve organic farming and therefore, the State-run Organic Certification Institute has to be strengthened so that more and more farmers adopt organic farming,” the Chief Minister said while presiding over the 149th executive meeting of the Mandi Parishad here on Monday.
Meanwhile, the State BJP unit criticised the SP Government for ignoring the plights of farmers saying those who lost their crop in unseasonal rain are yet to get their compensation despite directions from the Centre.
“The farmers are facing the brunt of the misrule of the Samajwadi Party Government. The cane farmers are yet to get their dues while the farmers who lost their crop during rain are yet to get compensation despite directions from the Centre that they should get it by March 27,” BJP spokesman Vijay Bahadur Pathak said here.
“The unseasonal rain has destroyed potato, linseed and wheat. Over a dozen farmers have committed suicide. The CM had assured Rs7-lakh compensation to the kin of the farmers who committed suicide but till date not a single penny has been paid,” he said.
