SP gears up for MP, Rajasthan Assembly polls

Facing existential crisis after repeatedly losing Lok Sabha and UP assembly elections since 2014, the Samajwadi Party is eying a big role for itself in 2024. The party is keen on expanding its footprint in other States.

The party is gearing up to contest assembly elections in Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan in October, 2023. The SP aims to not just contest elections in these states but also strengthen its roots in the run-up to the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.

The SP is also scouting for potential allies in Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan.  Though the SP leaders are not willing to speak, sources said the party is not averse to the idea of opening channels of communication with the Congress.

As per information by the SP, the party is eyeing future prospects in the MP and Rajasthan politics.

The sources also suggested that in both states, the SP was preparing a fresh blueprint for the seats dominated by the voters gailing from Yadav and Muslim communities.

Recently, SP president Akhilesh Yadav had travelled to Gwalior on the occasion of Krishna Janmashtami and had announced to contest the elections in MP.

In Haryana, Rajasthan’s Alwar, and the border areas of UP, the caste arithmetic favours the SP.

In the last assembly election in Rajasthan, the SP had made preparations to contest in alliance with the Congress, but the tie-up couldn’t materialise and the party contested alone on over a dozen seats.

While the party failed to leave any mark in that election, it has now once again started preparations for the upcoming assembly election in the state. Interestingly, this time, a third front is being formed in Rajasthan with the help of  the Communist parties that will consist of non-BJP and non-Congress parties.

Sources said that the SP would play a crucial role in the third front led by the Communist parties in Rajasthan.
