SP cadre failed to connect with masses: Report

The reality check by the Samajwadi Party through a survey carried out by observers could give sleepless nights to Mulayam Singh Yadav as the reports suggest bickering in the party and the failure of its cadre to connect with the masses.

Majority of Samajwadi Party observers, who were sent to the 26 districts to review the functioning of the party before the 2017 Assembly polls, have submitted their reports to party’s national general secretary Ram Gopal Yadav on Monday.

“The observers presented a gloomy picture of the organisation particularly in the Assembly segments represented by the first timers,” a senior leader said.

The reports talked about first timer MlAs who have not been not active in their constituencies since taking charge of the respective constituencies. The observers opined that in contrast to the first timers, Ministers have done well and have carried out development in their constituencies.

“These first-time legislators have failed to connect with the public and could lose the next elections if this trend continues. They are more interested in show-off then actually doing ground work,” one observer told The Pioneer on Monday.

The report also said organisation needs to be strengthened in most of the districts and achievements of the State Government should be propagated among the masses.

“It was pathetic to know that at some places leaders do not know about the welfare schemes the Government had launched. They even do not know that pathological tests are free in the State-run hospitals. This shows that we have failed in taking the message of good governance down up to the village level,” he said.

However, most of the observers gave a general view of the region and did not name any individual in their report.

The 26 observers were sent to the district mostly in eastern UP to get a first hand report of the ground realities. They went to these districts between October 26 to 30 and were asked to submit their reports on November 1.
