Southwest monsoon weakens across country

Published on:

After heavy rainfall along the west coast, the southwest monsoon is showing signs of weakening across the country barring parts of northeast India. But this is not expected to affect its onset dates over Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi or other parts of the Northwest India. The IMD has predicted that it is not likely to advance during the next week. Due to weakening of monsoon rainfall activity is very likely to reduce over interior parts of south peninsula, central and eastern parts of the country.  Meanwhile hot , humid and dusty weather will continue in Delhi, NCR and central India due western disturbances. However, the enhanced rainfall activity over northeastern states is likely to continue during next three days.  According to IMD, monsoon entering into a weak phase was a normal phenomenon. “It is the characteristic of monsoon that it travels in pulses.

This characteristic helps monsoon cover all parts of the country. If this does not happen, the reach of the ongoing pulse would have stopped around central India,” officials of IMD said. As per Skymet Weather, the reason for the reduction in rains can be related with the weakening of the offshore trough. The trough was running from coastal Maharashtra to Coastal Kerala. However, after weakening, it is now confined to coastal Karnataka and Kerala. Though, the rain intensity over the Mumbai would remain moderate but heavy showers are not foreseen. Meanwhile, on June 14, the city would witness Scattered Thunderstorms. The maximum temperature will be recorded around 31 degree Celsius and humidity around 79 percent. The cyclonic circulation over Northeast India and a trough running from this system would give moderate to heavy showers over Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, parts of Assam and Meghalaya.

As per Skymet Weather, moving up in Central and Northwest India, moderate dry and hot northwesterly winds from Rajasthan and Middle East will continue to blow.
