Indian Institute of Technology-Delhi is planning to start around nine short-term courses for students who have cleared XII Board exams. The admissions to these short-term courses will be based on an entrance test -separate from JEE -and students who have scored above 75 percent in XII Board exams will be eligible for the entrance test, sources in the admission committee said. The students will also have to clear an interview for admission in the short-term courses.
Sources said that the courses will be of six-month duration and will be started in the coming academic session (2014-15). “The entrance for short-term courses will be easier than JEE exams. The pattern will also be very different. Students who have scored above 75 per cent in board exams can sit for the entrance. The admission will be done based on the entrance and an interview. The interview will hold 25 per cent marks,” said a source.
The nine short-term engineering courses will be offered in subjects like Chemical, Civil, Electrical, Mechanical and Textile technology, sources said. These short-term courses will be foundation courses for B.Tech subjects. Students will be given a certificate on completion of the course.
The course and fee structure are yet to be finalised. Sources said that each short-term course is expected to have 60 seats. IIT administration, however, did not confirm the news.
