Hailing the results of exit polls for the Assam elections 2016, BJP’s Chief Ministerial candidate for Assam and Union Sports Minister Sarbananda Sonowal said that the exit polls are reflection of the peoples wish and that the people of the State have voted for change.
Sonowal said this while addressing the newsmen in Guwahati on Tuesday and asserted that the BJP will realise its agenda of winning 84 seats out of the total 126.
“The BJP and its allies will achieve its mission, which is 84 seats. The Prime Minister Narendra Modi in several rallies in Assam urged the voters to give decisive mandate and people have voted for a change and in favour of the BJP,” Sonowal said.
It may be mentioned here that the BJP had formulated its ‘Mission 84’ soon after its impressive victory in the lok Sabha polls in Assam in 2014 where the saffron party won seven out of 14 lok Sabha seats.
“The exit polls have reflected the peoples’ wish. People have voted for change and we will realise our agenda of 84 seats. We are going to work as a team with our allies,” Sonowal said.
The ruling Congress in Assam, however, rubbished the exit poll of five agencies which predicted a Government by the BJP and its allies in Assam and said that the exit polls were proved wrong in Bihar and Delhi Assembly polls.
“The exit polls are baseless and it is not based in truth. The BJP is trying to insert pressure on the officials engaged in the counting process on May 19 and influence the counting in their favour,” said Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) Senior Spokesperson Apruba Bhattacharya.
“The people of Delhi and Bihar have already proved this kinds of exit polls carried out by some organisations as wrong and the same is going to be repeated in case of the exit polls here,” he said adding that the Congress and its allies are going to form the Government in Assam after May 19.
