Congress president Sonia Gandhi concluded her two-day visit to Raebareli by inaugurating a dual solar water pump system and inspecting the development works in her parliamentary constituency.
Gandhi inaugurated 170 dual solar water pump sets at Sanehi village under Rahi block and later visited several villages to monitor the development works. The Congress president also visited the Dariyapur sugar mills area where an AIIMS is under construction. She inspected the ongoing work and talked to the engineers. The United Progressive Alliance Government had sanctioned an AIIMS at Raebareli.
The Congress president met the employees of the construction company and labourers at the AIIMS site and enquired about their problems relating to some reports of rangdari (extortion calls) there. The Congress MP’s officer on special duty had on Monday taken up the rangdari issue with the Superintendent of Police, who had assured him to set up a temporary police outpost there.
In a chaupal, in Madhupuri village near the upcoming AIIMS building, the locals asked the Congress MP whether they would get jobs in return for their land acquired for the medical institute to which she said that efforts were on in this regard.
During her visit to Raghunathpur Kateli, Maheri, Bhadokar, Madhupuri and Nathula villages, Gandhi met the people and gave a patient hearing to their problems. Near Peetambarpur village, an old Congress worker, Surya Nath Singh, sought her help for getting medical treatment to which Gandhi directed her OSD to do the needful.
In Bhadokhar, the women and other villagers demanded a high school for the children and apprised Gandhi of their problems relating to power and water for irrigation. The Congress president assured them that she would take up the issue.
