Former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh led the Congress leaders including party president Sonia Gandhi in praising the ISRO scientists for their feat for the Mars Orbiter Mission success on Wednesday.

“This event marks the culimination of a decade’s worth of hardwork. It’s a glowing tribute to the ability of our scientists and their unfailing efforts in making this mission a success. We take this opportunity to congratulate every single individual who has been associated with this programme,” Singh said. In her message commending the ISRO scientists, Sonia Gandhi said that the achievement would be a source for inspiration “for generations to come”. “India earns its admirable position in the world as one of the pioneering space exploring nations with Mangalyaan. It is a milestone in the journey that we as a nation envisaged after Independence,” Sonia said.

Meanwhile Congress general secretary Digvijay Singh took a jibe at Prime Minister Narendra Modi, as he wondered whether the Prime Minister believed the mission had been achieved in 100 days.

leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha, Ghulam Nabi Azad, said that putting the MOM into the Mar orbit was a “national accomplishment of global ramifications”.

Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi termed India’s space science accomplishment as a “historic day” for the countrymen. “Congratulations to the Mangalyan team and ISRO on this extraordinary achievements. May our space research community continue to push the boundaries and fire the imagination of a billion minds,” he said in a statement.
