As the Congress plans to launch a two-pronged course of action against the Modi Government over its handling of the Indian economy, Congress president Sonia Gandhi has called for a high-level meeting of the general secretaries of the party along with presidents of frontal organisations on November 2 to discuss the issues.

While the party will launch a media blitzkrieg by holding as many as 35 press conferences from November 1 to 8 against the Central Government over the economic situation, it will also take to the streets from November 5-15 over the matter.

The meeting is likely to discuss and give shape to the agitation programmes that the party is planning between November 5 and 15 on issues relating to economic slowdown.

“The leaders are likely to speak on issues related to the economy. The party chief may also propose to reach out to other Opposition parties to join the protest in respective states and it will culminate in a rally in the national Capital,” said a senior Congress leader.

According to the leaders the results of Assembly polls of Maharashtra and Haryana have buoyed the morale of the party and the leadership desires to the take the opportunity to go to the people and explain the wrongs of the Modi Government.

“It is pertinent to keep raising these issues as the economic situation is getting worse week after week. People have realized that and it was reflected in Assembly election results,” said the leader.

The party has already constituted a policy group consisting of senior leadership to discuss issues related to economy, Centre’s move to sign the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership, unemployment and disinvestment of PSUs.

General secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra too took to twitter to target the Modi government on economy. “Yesterday, the entire country celebrated a festival for prosperity. But this time everyone has felt that Diwali festivities were lacklustre. The BJP Government has grounded the nation’s prosperity and even weakened the Reserve Bank,” Priyanka tweeted in Hindi.

The party will also discuss the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP), a proposed trade agreement among 16 countries including India, China and Australia.
