Sitting Congress MlA from Somnath constituency in Saurashtra region, Jasabhai Barad on Wednesday joined BJP after he submitted his resignation to Gujarat Assembly Speaker Vajubhai Vala.
Barad was elected on BJP ticket in 1995 for the first time. He supported Shankersinh Vaghela to rebel against then BJP Chief Minister Keshubhai Patel and joined Vaghela’s political outfit Rashtriya Janata Party (RJP). He was also Cabinet Minister in Vaghela Government for a year. After submitting resignation as MlA, he also went to meet Narendra Modi and then addressed a press conference in presence of Gujarat BJP president RC Faldu and general secretary Vijay Rupani donning saffron scarf.
