Union Energy Minister Piyush Goyal is unhappy that some States are not promoting renewable energy to the expectation of the Union Government. Speaking at the first Foundation Day celebrations of the Association of Renewable Energy Agencies of the States (AREAS) in Bengaluru on Thursday, the Minister expressed disappointment over some States not reacting positively to the Centre’s ambitious drive to promote renewable energy production and meet their obligations. He said this was a serious issue and States not meeting the target will be undesirable. “This was the duty of the Regulatory authorities which should ensure that the State Governments keep up their targets and promote public participation in eco-friendly power means,” he said.
However, the Minister appreciated the efforts made by Karnataka, which is the top producer of clean energy in the country, and said the Centre would fully support its programmes to create a friendly atmosphere to involve public participation in RE production by involving farmers, private industries and other stake holders.
