Having faced one of the toughest attacks from Opposition after he became the Chief Minister over a year ago on corruption allegations and being summoned by high command for clarification, Virbhadra Singh on Thursday accused some Congress leaders of conspiring against him.
The Chief Minister arrived at Kullu on Wednesday evening after meeting AICC general aecretary and State in-charge Ambika Soni and other senior leaders at Delhi after clarifying his side on the series of corruption allegations made against him.
“I have always been under attack of malicious campaign launched by BJP leaders who are frustrated at people-friendly policies launched by the State Government but this time, some Congress leaders had connived against me,” said the Chief Minister.
He, however, refused to name the Congress leaders who allegedly conspired against him. “I am least bothered about such conspiracies. I have spent over 50 years in public life and have done no corruption,” said Singh.
He said there were several attempts in the past and several frivolous cases were made against him by the Opposition BJP but every time, he had come out clean. “Yes, my family members have shares in a listed company but having shares in any firm does not amount to crime under the law,” said the Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister.
Alleging that the Opposition is raking old issues, which were also raised by them during Assembly elections, he said people have faith in him and they have taught the BJP a lesson by throwing them out of power.
“let them do whatever they want and people of Himachal Pradesh know the facts,” he added.
Virbhadra Singh had come under serious attack from BJP past week, with leader of the Opposition in the Rajya Sabha Arun Jaitley writing to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh about corruption charges against Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister and later Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) activists protesting outside Rahul Gandhi’s residence at Delhi demanding removal of the Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister.
