Pakistani Army Sunday carried out yet another sniper attack in Nowshera sector of Rajouri in which one Indian jawan sacrificed his life. In a brief statement the Indian army termed it a 'grave' provocation while assuring befitting response.

The 'sniping' incident, however, triggered fresh firing in the forward area with Indian side choosing to retaliate 'strongly' and 'effectively' in response to the extreme provocation from the Pakistani side.

This is the third incident of 'sniping' in a row in last three days. At the time of filing the report, tension prevailed in forward area along the line of control in the region.

The Indian army is also anticipating spike in infiltration bids by heavily armed terrorists following closing down of mountain passes in the higher reaches of North Kashmir owing to fresh snowfall in the area.

Intelligence reports have also reported presence of large number of trained terrorists in the launching pads close to the line of control. According to Defence Spokesman Lt-Col Devendra Anand, "Pakistan army resorted to an 'unprovoked' ceasefire violation in Nowshera sector around 2.45 p.m in which 29 year old Naik Gosavi Keshav Somgir, injured critically, later succumbed to his injuries". He hailed from Nashik district in Maharashtra and is survived by his wife.

Meanwhile, 21 year old Rifleman Varun Katal, martyred in  Sunderbani sector on Saturday, was cremated with full military honours in his native village in Samba.

His mortal remains were escorted in a big procession by local villagers. Holding tricolour in their hands the villagers shouted slogans against Pakistan and hailed Indian army for giving them a befitting reply.

Rifleman Varun, survived by his father had last interacted with him on saturday shortly before he was targeted by a sniper fire from across the line of control. He had promised his father to return home soon ahead of the marriage ceremony of his elder sister.

A civilian porter deployed by the Indian army had also succumbed to his injuries after he was  hit by a sniper fire in Akhnoor sector on Friday.
