Solar scam: Con woman says cops didn't produce seized articles in court

Con woman Saritha S Nair, prime accused in Kerala’s infamous solar scam involving money, sex and political power, on Monday charged the State police with not producing in court the articles they had seized from her while arresting her over two years ago.

Claiming that she had no role in the solar scam, Saritha told the G Sivarajan judicial commission looking into the scandal that the police had seized a laptop computer, four mobile phones, six CDs, four pen drives and a bag containing Rs 54,000 while arresting her but only the laptop and two mobile phones were produced in the court.

Saritha also accused the police of raiding her house before taking her there for evidence-gathering adding that she could see when she returned home after getting bail that several things had been lost. The con woman appeared before the commission on Monday in Kochi for deposition after several postponements.

Saritha also told the commission that she was ready to produce the “explosive” notes – which presumably contained the names of Congress leaders, Ministers, MlAs and former ministers who had allegedly used her physically and financially – she had waved at newsmen during a Press conference in Thiruvananthapuram but sought more time for this.

The solar scam, pertaining to the duping of several people of crores of rupees by Saritha and her former live-in partner Biju Radhakrishnan promising to install highly profitable solar power projects, had raised a huge political storm recently with Biju claiming that Chief Minister Oommen Chandy had sexual relationship with the con woman.

The fraudster had also claimed to the commission that he had kept the proof of this relationship – in the form of a pen drive containing videos captured by Saritha – intact in a secret place. However, the commission’s efforts to retrieve the so-called proof ended in a fiasco after a highly dramatic search for it in Coimbatore yielded nothing.
