Snooping row: Cong wants Modi to quit

Published on:

The Gujarat Congress on Friday sought BJP’s Prime Ministerial candidate Narendra Modi’s resignation as Chief Minister of Gujarat over his close proximity with the woman who was put under alleged surveillance by the State machinery.

Senior Gujarat Congress leader Shaktisinh Gohil also threatened to expose Modi by claiming that he had acquired information through RTI on how public exchequer was misused to benefit the victim of the snooping. He charged that State administration paid `12,270 towards snacks for Modi and the woman at Hotel Nilam during Kutch festival. The RTI revelation also has mentioned about payment for the woman’s mobile recharges, air fare, stationeries, etc.

The party has demanded a probe by a sitting Supreme Court judge into the issue. Gohil said even if anyone (victim or her father) did not want a probe into the mater, the Gujarat Government should take a suo motu and register a case as the offence was “non compoundable for which no compromise  is allowed between the accused and the victim under law”.

“The guilty should be prosecuted. He (Modi) should quit if he has any morals. But Modi and morals always travel in opposite directions,” Gohil said at a Press conference at AICC headquarters.

Gohil alleged that the Modi Government bought the silence of the woman and her family by allotting a “big solar project in Gandhinagar running into crores” to a company run by the woman (victim) in which two of her brothers were directors. Gohil alleged that when the relationship between the two (Modi and woman) turned sour Modi allegedly ordered for the snooping activity and after some time the “compromise” formula for the mega project was arrived.

Divulging details acquired information through RTI on “how public exchequer was misused to benefit the victim of the snooping”, the Gujarat leader threatened to reveal more if Modi denied the charges. “I am not doing so now because the RTI information has the name of the woman which I don’t want to reveal and that Modi had very close relation with the woman.”
