BJP national president Rajnath Singh strongly condemned UPA Government’s decision to set up a judicial probe into Gujarat snoopgate which undermine the federal structure and polity. BJP leader also questioned the timing of the Union Cabinet’s decision to set up a judicial inquiry against the snoopgate and felt when there was already a commission of inquiry setup by the Gujarat Government what was the need for another commission of inquiry set up by the UPA Government targeting Narendra Modi.
Addressing the Karnataka BJP’s special executive meeting in Bangalore on Friday Rajnath Singh hit out at Congress and maintained that Congress and its allies were unable to digest the popularity of Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi.
He said, “Soon after a court in Ahmedabad rejected a petition to prosecute him for conspiracy in 2002 post-Godhra riots, the UPA has decided to set up a judicial inquiry commission to look into allegations of illegal snooping of a woman in Gujarat against Modi.”
“When Modi himself had already ordered an inquiry on this case in the State, was it necessary for the Centre to announce for another inquiry commission on snoopgateIJ Is this not against the federal set-up. The more UPA targets Modi, the more Gujarat CM will emerge stronger,” Singh said.
“The results of Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan are enough to learn that little extra effort will take us to 300-mark. The party expected around 110 seats in Rajasthan, but we were surprised to see 160 plus seats after the results were declared. MP results also sprang a surprise with more seats. All these happened due to extra effort of karyakartas,” he added.
“The party with the most popular PM candidate and the party with cadre strength with complete conviction — are the reasons that the BJP go beyond 272 seats,” he maintained.
BJP president said, “Realising these potentials, the Congress wants to divert attention from good governance and development to communal issues by going back to 2002 Gujarat riots.”
“All such conspiracies by Congress against Modi will not bear fruit. People have rejected these conspiracies by the Congress. It amounts to gagging the Opposition,” he further added.
Referring to 2002 Gujarat riots BJP president said for the past one decade Congress has been involved in hatching conspiracies against Modi and trying to fix him. “But the report given by the Special Investigative Team has absolved him and gave Modi a clean chit,” he added.
But surprisingly Rajnath Singh maintained a stoic silence on the issue of Yeddyurappa’s return to BJP. Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of the Special Executive Meeting of the Karnataka BJP, he said, ‘’When we take a decision on this matter, we will let you know. ‘’When asked whether the party would bring back Yeddyurappa shortly, he just nodded and said, ‘’Everything is under process’’.
A BJP leader told The Pioneer that the party has decided to officially invite Yeddyurappa asking him to come back to the party.
