Six arrested in Goa for betting on CSK-MI final

The Goa Police arrested six bookies for accepting IPl bets in a raid on Sunday night during the IPl finals. Police said the bookies hailing from Mumbai had been identified as Paresh Kota, Hitesh Papat, Amit Papat, Ketan Chawda, Sandeep Kota and Niket.

“We have seized 46 mobile phones, laptops and other equipment from them. We have also seized a register with codes and numbers which appear to be referring to their clients and the bets made,” Director General of Police OP Mishra said, adding that the bookies were accepting bets on both Chennai Super Kings and Mumbai Indians.

“They had paid `2 lakh as rent and were staying there for at least 45 days,” Mishra said referring to the rented villa in Candolim, a beach village, 15 km to the North of here.

The Goa Police, however, sought to take credit for the raid, even as initial reports said that the tip-off came from a team of Delhi Police officials who were camping in the State for the last week in connection with the IPl spot-fixing scam.

“This was our information. The Delhi Police team is also in Goa. Whenever they ask for co-operation they are provided it,” Mishra said.
