BJP national spokesperson Nirmala Sitharaman on Thursday ridiculed the UPA’s Bharat Nirman advertisement campaign and said it was trying to highlight its “achievement” through public money.
Talking to mediapersons she said that this was nothing but blatant misuse of Government money publicising the party. “Only yesterday Delhi lokyukata has asked Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit to return `11 crore, which it had spent for inserting advertisements before the 2008 Assembly elections,” she said. The UPA Government is indulging into the shame and should be stopped immediately.
Sitharaman said that the UPA had hardly any achievements as this Government would be known for its mega corruption. Instead of making noise about its four years’ achievements, UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh should have clarified their position on scams of the Government.
She said that it seems the present UPA Government hardly believes in accountability as it has not investigated any of the scams. “Government at the Centre is surviving on CBI and misusing this premier investigating agency to keep its allies with it,” she said, adding that Government would not give independence to this agency, despite its big claims.
The BJP spokesperson said that previous session of Parliament was washed away as Government was not willing to discuss the issues raised by the Opposition. If the Prime Minister had dropped PK Bansal and Ashwini Kumar, when charges against them were surfaced, Parliament would have a smooth and useful session.
Talking about the performance of Ashok Gehlot-led Congress Government in Rajasthan, Sitharaman said none of the welfare schemes of this Government has benefited the common man. On the other hand it had shelved many welfare schemes of previous Government without citing any reason.
She said that Gehlot and his Government is resorting to political vendetta to get political mileage in the coming Assembly elections. “But as the Suraj Sankalp Yatra of Raje is getting response, it is almost certain that the BJP is set to return to power in the State,” she said.
Sitharaman, who has been given charge of party’s media campaign in Rajasthan, on Thursday held a meeting with State spokespersons and others who are connected with the media cell of the party.
Talking to The Pioneer Sitharaman said she would soon visit divisional and district headquarters to hold similar meetings with the media cells and give them tips on how to handle the media before and during the Assembly elections.
