In the continuing investigations into the links of the dreaded slain gangster Nayeemuddin alias Nayeem with the politicians and the police officials, the Special Investigations Team on Monday questioned the retired Additional Superintendent of Police Ravinder Reddy.
He is the second prominent person to be summoned by the SIT after Telugu Desam legislator R Krishnaiah who was was summoned last week.
SIT officials questioned Ravinder Reddy at the Narsingi police station in Cyberabad about his alleged connections with the naxalite turned gangster during his service in Nalgonda district.
Reddy told the officials that while he was serving in Bhongir as DSP during 1997-2000 Nayeem was in local sub jail and he had visited him twice as part of his professional work”.
Bhongir was Nayeem’s home town in Nalgonda district where Ravinder Reddy had worked in 1995 to 2004 in different positions. “When I was working in Bhongir, there was nothing called Nayeem gang. He was a Maoist and an undertrial”, he said. “There was no need for me to get involved in any land settlements with him. I don’t have an inch of land in Hyderabad. I have some land only in Nizamabad district”, he said.
Reddy told the reporters that he was not asked about the dealings of other officials or politicians with Nayeem.
The SIT also questioned Nayeem’s driver Samuel on Monday.
The investigation has picked up the pace as the SIT was getting ready to file the first charge sheet in Nayeem’s case. The gangster, who was allegedly running a massive empire through extortion, land grabbing and settlement was killed in an encounter with the police in Shadnagar near Hyderabad on August 8 in questionable circumstances.
