In a great relief to Gujarat cadre suspended IPS officer and one of the accused in the Ishrat Jahan encounter case, Gl Singhal, the Gujarat Government on Wednesday late night revoked his suspension.
Sources in the State Home Department said that the decision was taken in a review meeting of the Department chaired by Chief Minister Anandiben Patel. Singhal was granted a default bail by the designated court after the CBI failed to chargesheet him in the mandatory 90 days.
The Gujarat cop also courted controversy when he allegedly recorded a conversation of a meeting of law officials and Ministers said to be convened to derail the Ishrat Jahan probe.
He was also reported to have handed over to CBI some recorded tapes that led to the so-called snoopgate scandal involving a young architect who was allegedly trailed and tapped by the Gujarat Government.
Singhal will resume work after almost a year from June 2, 2014 as the Superintendent of Police, State Reserve Police, Gandhinagar.
