SI injured in TMC-CPI(M) clash dies

At a time when the political opposition has been complaining of lack of security for the common people in Bengal on account of failing law and order situation, things tended to take a turn for the worse when even police officers were falling prey to the ruling Trinamool Congress goons’ bombs.

More than a year after a sub-inspector was shot dead in Kolkata in broad daylight while  on duty, a colleague of his succumbed to Trinamool bombs at Dubrajpur in Birbhum where the district party president Anubrata Mandal had last during year panchayat polls publicly asked his men to torch the opposition houses and bomb the police if they intervened.

Sub-Inspector Amit Chakrabarty who had been attacked with bombs by alleged Trinamool men at Dubrajpur when he rushed in to defuse tensions between Trinamool and CPI(M) workers on June 4 died of his injury at a private hospital on Monday. He was 32.

Chakrabarty had gone into coma after the attack, said Birbhum SP Alok Rajoria refusing to comment on whether the Government had been paying for his treatment.

Insiders in the police force however said that not a farthing had been spent by the police department “save the paltry amount we contributed from our pockets” to take care of `30 lakh that was already spent for his treatment in these 55 days of his hospitalisation. “We do not know how to clear the bill of the hospital,” a close relative said adding no senior officers, nor a politician had come to see the dying policeman.

Exactly a year ago Mandal had thundered from a public rally asking his men to torch opposition houses and bomb the police. Within three days the father of a party rebel Hriday Ghosh who has since joined the BJP was shot dead a few hundred meters from the place of the rally.

A year has elapsed the police has not included Mandal’s name in the charge-sheet despite him being named the main accused.
