Expressing his concern over the recent clash along the Assam-Nagaland border, Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi on Friday appealed to the militants to shun the path of violence and said that the Government would go all out against those militant outfits, who are yet to respond to the Government’s peace offer.
Gogoi said this while delivering his Independence Day speech in Guwahati on Friday, which witnessed participation of huge number of people despite incessant rain and a boycott call given by the militant outfits of the region.
Although the militant outfits of the Northeastern region have jointly called for a boycott of the Independence Day and a general shutdown during the day on Friday, people came out in huge numbers across the State to participate in the celebrations to mark the 68th Independence Day on Friday.
“No problem can be solved with violence and so I appeal to all the militants to shun the path of violence and join the mainstream,” said Gogoi while giving his Independence Day speech amid rain.
Gogoi also expressed concern over the recent border dispute between Assam and Nagaland and said that peace is the pre-requisite to solve any dispute. “We had already taken up steps and I personally urged the Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh seeking his initiative to end the problem between the two States,”
said Gogoi.
The Chief Minister also warned anti-talk faction of the militant outfits and said that the Government would adopt stern steps to deal with them, if they do not respond to the peace offer of the Government.
