The incident occurred on the national highway between Vijayawada and Eluru in neighbouring West Godavari district. Those killed were identified as Gandham Maraiah (36) Pagidi Maraiah (34) and B Nageshwara Rao (55) all residents of West Godavari district.

The incident occurred near Autupally village in Krishna district. It first hit the vehicle with their own car and then opened fire from close range.

While two victims died on the spot, the other died while undergoing treatment at a hospital. Police declared an alert in the districts of Krishna and West Godavari and check posts were set up on the roads to nab the assaialants.
